In response to the tragic events on Christmas Eve that resulted in the deaths of nearly 200 Nigerians on the Plateau, the Senate has called on all service chiefs to appear before it and provide explanations.
The move comes after the house minority caucus raised an alarm three days ago, urging urgent action to halt the bloodletting in the state.
The minority caucus had earlier recommended that the National Assembly, NASS, utilize every legislative tool at its disposal to address the escalating violence in the North Central region, particularly in Plateau State. The summoned service chiefs include the Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Air Staff, Director-General of the Department of State Services, DSS, Inspector General of Police, and the National Security Adviser.

The Senate’s decision to summon the service chiefs underscores the gravity of the situation and the need for a comprehensive and transparent account of the events leading to the tragic incident.
