FCTA sets standards for motor terminals, taxi packs in FCT

The Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, has set a minimum standard for all temporary motor park terminals and taxi ranks in the federal capital, Abuja.

The Director, Department of Traffic Management, Bodinga Wadata stated this when officials of Transportation Secretariat visited all the temporary motor terminals where Department of Development Control in conjunction with the Command and Control Division of Security Services Department recently removed all the shanties and other illegal businesses in some terminals, an exercise that will continue until full sanity and security is restored in all the terminals and Taxi Ranks.

The visit which was to remind the Terminal Operators of the need to ensure that the removed shanties and other illegal businesses within the terminals do not return.

The Managers of temporary terminals and taxi rank in Area 1, Area 3 and Banex Junction where the exercise took placed were reminded that they were holding those spaces on trust for the government after the revocation order and reemphasized the need for absolute sanity in the terminals.

The Director urged the Managers who are interested to key into the FCT Administration’s Smart City Vision to indicate interest in writing, showing their capacities and managerial capabilities to develop and manage the terminals and taxi ranks.

The minimum standards expected in all the terminals and taxi ranks include provision of office space, provision of shelter pavilion for commuters, provision of standard toilet facilities, and provision of mini marts and proper lighting of the whole space.The floor must be tarred and entire space fenced with removable materials.

All facilities to be provided must be of standard and temporarily in nature.

Speaking during the visit, all the managers commended the Adminstration for carrying out the removal of the shanties and other illegal businesses in the terminals.

They pledged their cooperation to the Administration’s vision on the new face of the terminals and taxi ranks.
