Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has responded to the recent Supreme Court ruling that upheld his election victory. The five-member panel, led by Ibrahim Saulawa, dismissed the appeal lodged by Tonye Cole, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the 2023 elections, citing a lack of merit.

The Supreme Court maintained that Cole and the APC failed to substantiate claims of non-compliance with the 2022 Electoral Act, which were crucial to nullifying Fubara’s election. Following the judgment, Fubara expressed gratitude to God for the victory and acknowledged the support of President Bola Tinubu, praising him for his fatherly role in addressing state matters, including the ongoing litigation.

The governor also recognized Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and his predecessor, referring to him as “oga” or boss, despite their recent fallout over control of Rivers state’s political structure.

Fubara, reiterating his commitment to serving the people of Rivers, emphasized his determination not to be distracted from delivering good governance. He highlighted the significance of the Supreme Court’s validation of his mandate, emphasizing the need for unity and cooperation to fulfill the purpose of governance.

With an eye on the future, Fubara articulated his vision for Rivers State, aspiring to make it economically viable and competitive, drawing a parallel with Lagos. He called for peace and collaboration among members of different parties, declaring the resolution of internal issues and inviting everyone to contribute to building the Rivers State of their collective dreams. The governor expressed optimism in resolving remaining challenges and fostering unity within the state’s political landscape.
