Ebonyi State Police Command, on Sunday says it operatives have arrested a suspected member of Black Axe Confraternity, a cultists group.
The Police Command spokesman in the state, DSP Joshua Ukandu, who confirmed the arrest in Abakaliki, disclosed that the arrest was made on Saturday.
“On Saturday, police operatives on patrol arrested a suspected member of the Black Axe Confraternity at Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi.
“Police recovered three locally-made pistols, six live cartridges, one live 7.62mm and three live 9mm ammunition from the suspect.
“The suspect confessed to being a member of the Black Axe Confraternity.
“It is suspected that he is also a member of the proscribed Eastern Security Network, an affiliate of the equally-proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra.
“He will be arraigned upon the conclusion of investigation’’, Ukandu stated.
Meanwhile, Operatives of the Police Command in Lagos State have arrested two suspected cultists, Hammed Olawale, 20, and Japhet Oderinde, 23, in the Igando area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest in a statement he posted on his verified X handle, formally twitter @benHundeyin on Sunday.
He said that the suspects were arrested following a distress call.
“The suspects were arrested by officers from Igando after responding to a distress call that two rival cult groups had gone on rampage.
“The two suspects were found in possession of a locally-fabricated semi-automatic pistol with four live rounds of 9mm ammunition”, he said.
Hundeyin added that a 26-year-old Abeeb Fagbohun was found shot and promptly taken to hospital.
