Christopher Danjuma, the Head coach of Nigeria’s Under 20 Girls, the Falconets, confirmed that 29 players are currently in camp in preparation for the 2023 Africa Games in Ghana.
He informed the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Abuja that six additional players were invited to join the initial 23 players, who began training on Feb. 15 for the Games.
“The six players were recently added to the camp. At the end of the camp, 20 players will be selected for the Games,” he stated.
Danjuma highlighted the team’s intensified preparations for the tournament, mentioning that the technical crew is implementing specific strategies and utilizing a meticulously crafted training template to enhance the team’s readiness.
He expressed confidence in Nigeria’s ability to secure a podium finish in Ghana and urged the players to remain focused and committed to the goal of retaining the title won in Morocco in 2019.
“We won gold at the last edition, and we are intensifying effort to achieve the same feat this time around,” he emphasized.
Danjuma also appreciated the support of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, towards the development of football in the country. He disclosed that the team is scheduled to depart for Ghana on March 1.
The Falconets have previously clinched gold in the football competition at the 2003 and 2007 editions of the Games.
