The private residence of Mariya Mahmoud,  the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, has been razed by fire.

The fire outbreak occurred on Sunday afternoon at the residence located at No. 9, Justice Roseline Ukeje Close, Asokoro, Abuja.

Firefighters were reportedly slow to respond to distress calls when the fire broke out.

Austine Elemue, media aide to the minister, who confirmed the incident, said the cause of the fire outbreak could not be ascertained immediately.

Elemue said first responders could not salvage anything in the house.

“Yes, fire gutted the private residence of the minister of state. The investigation is still on to determine the cause of the fire,” Elemue said.

“But an electric spark is suspected though, but we are going to wait for the outcome of the investigation. There is no casualty but we could not salvage anything from the house.”
