Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum has disclosed that his administration spent N40 billion in helping people displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency in the last year.

Zulum said this while speaking to the IDPs in Mafa, his hometown, on Sunday in response to rumors in Dikwa and Mafa towns that the IDPs considered returning to the bushes where they were rescued from Boko Haram insurgents due to financial difficulties.

The governor said shortage of food shortage was a global issue partly caused by the Russia – Ukraine war.

Zulum emphasized that the displaced people should appreciate the Borno government for its continuous efforts to support them.

He highlighted that no other state in Nigeria has been consistently assisting IDPs like Borno.

Zulum praised the Federal Government, the military, security agencies, and volunteers for their roles in improving security, which allowed for the resettlement of displaced communities in the state.

The governor mentioned that 90% of the resettled individuals now have access to their farmlands and encouraged them to engage in agriculture instead of relying on temporary handouts.

The Borno government has successfully resettled two out of the three million estimated displaced persons in the state.
