The Nigerian Navy, Forward Operation Base, Ibaka, in Akwa Ibom, has apprehended two individuals suspected of fuel smuggling and seized their wooden boat containing 5,100 liters of petrol.
Navy Capt. Uche Aneke, the Commanding Officer of the base, confirmed that the suspects, their boat, and petrol were handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Ibaka on Sunday.
Aneke said that the Navy’s patrol team intercepted the suspects on Feb. 22 based on intelligence reports of smuggling activities in the area.
“A patrol team of the Navy arrested the suspects on Feb. 22 following an intelligence report about suspected smuggling activities in the area.
“The suspects were found with 5,100 liters of petrol concealed under bags of yams, cartons of drinks, other beverages, and several cartons of floor tiles, all covered with tarpaulin.”

Aneke issued a stern warning to those involved in illegal activities, emphasizing that security agencies would not tolerate such actions within Nigeria’s coastal areas.
Mr. Micheal Asibor, the head of NSCDC’s anti-vandalism unit in Akwa Ibom, affirmed the diligent prosecution of the suspects and the incident.
