The FCT Fire Service said that the fire that engulfed the upper floor of Minister of State Dr. Mariya Mahmoud’s residence in Abuja on Sunday originated from a suspected electrical fault in the children’s room.

Acting Director of FCT Fire Service, Mr. Amiola Adebayo disclosed that the Fire Service received a distress call at 10:30 a.m. and immediately dispatched firemen to the scene.

Adedayo said that although no life was lost, all the household items on the upper floor of the 7-bedroom duplex were destroyed by the fire.

He identified some of the contents as beds, clothes, documents, credentials, jewelry, and air conditioners, including the roof, among other valuables.

He said that the fire was brought under control around 2:51 p.m., adding that the cause of the fire was suspected to be an electrical fault inside the children’s room.

Media Aide to the minister, Mr Austine Elemue, had earlier confirmed private residence of the FCT Minister of State in Abuja was razed down by fire on Sunday.

He said the cause of the fire was being investigated by the authorities.

He said the fire began around 10:00 a.m. at the residence located at No. 9, Justice Roseline Ukeje Close, Asokoro, Abuja.
