Jose Peseiro, the coach of Nigeria’s Senior national team, is set to officially step down from his position tomorrow, Thursday.
This move comes as his contract with the Nigerian Football Federation , NFF, comes to an end, according to reports from OwnGoalNigeria.com.
Peseiro successfully guided the team to the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations, meeting the target set for him to earn a contract extension. However, despite reaching the final and losing 1-2 to the host country, Cote d’Ivoire, Peseiro has chosen not to activate the option to extend his contract with the team.

Following their impressive performance in the tournament, several teams across Africa expressed interest in having the Portuguese coach as their head coach. Peseiro seems to have accepted an offer from one of these interested teams.
According to Al-Hayat, as reported by Awras, Peseiro has agreed to the offer presented by the Algerian Football Federation, FAF. The FAF is seeking a new coach to lead its national team after parting ways with Djamel Belmadi.
The publication stated that Peseiro has officially sent his acceptance letter to Walid Sadi, the president of the Algerian FA, FAF. An official announcement is expected to be made next week, once his contract with the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, has expired.
Initially, Swiss coach Vladimir Petkovic was the preferred choice for the job. However, he failed to meet the 48-hour deadline given to accept the position. Despite this, Petkovic’s lawyer contacted the FA president after the deadline expired, expressing his client’s willingness to accept the job.
Now, the FA must decide whether to stick with offering the job to Peseiro or revert to their original plan of appointing Petkovic, who remains their first choice, according to Awras.
