A devastating fire has swept through the bustling Wuse market located in the heart of Abuja, the capital of Nigeria.

The cause of the fire outbreak is currently unknown, but it has abruptly halted all business activities in the Market Area. Pandemonium and confusion reign as people rush in different directions, causing traffic gridlock on all roads leading to the market.

Security operatives from the Nigeria Police Force, NPF,Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Vehicle Inspection Officers ,VIO, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps,NSCDC, arrived at the market and barricaded the entrance to prevent people from entering.

Shooting sporadically and firing tear gas into the air. Smoke billowed into the atmosphere from a section of the market, particularly the car park at the northern side of the entrance, where some vehicles had already been engulfed in flames.

Inside the market, people tried to escape by jumping over the perimeter fence. Firefighters also arrived at the scene.
