Igq Swiatek has secured the Indian Wells title with dominant Victory over Sakkari for the second time .

Two years ago, Igq Swiatek secured the title in the California desert by defeating Sakkari with a score of 6-4, 6-1. On Sunday, she repeated her triumph with a 6-4, 6-0 victory, clinching her second title of the 2024 season and the 19th of her career. Swiatek now joins the ranks of the 10th woman to win multiple titles in Indian Wells throughout history.

In her sixth career encounter with Sakkari, Swiatek dominated the final stages by winning the last eight games from a tied score of 4-4 in the opening set. With actress Zendaya, star of the film “Challengers,” in attendance, Swiatek took an early lead, establishing a 3-0 advantage within 15 minutes, while Sakkari struggled to find her rhythm. Despite Sakkari’s resilience, leveling the first set at 3-3 and staying competitive until 4-4, Swiatek managed to break serve for a second time and claim the hard-fought first set. Swiatek carried her momentum into the second set, losing only five points and securing her third bagel set of the tournament, ultimately clinching victory.

The rivalry between Swiatek and Sakkari has seen them split their six career meetings, with all matches decided in straight sets. Swiatek’s next challenge awaits at the Miami Open, where she aims to achieve the Sunshine Double for the second time.

As one of only four women to secure victories at Indian Wells and Miami consecutively, she seeks to emulate Stefanie Graf by accomplishing this feat twice.
