Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu emphasized Badagry’s tourism potential during an inspection tour of various tourist centers in the area on Thursday.

He highlighted the significance of completing ongoing projects and preserving heritage sites to attract both local and international tourists, making Lagos State a preferred destination. The tour included visits to landmarks such as the Slave Museum International, Vlekete, Badagry Heritage Museum, the First Storey Building, Point of No Return, and Mobee Royal Family Museum. Governor Sanwo-Olu underscored the importance of restoring and preserving these sites to unlock Badagry’s tourism potential.

He said,”For us, it is to complete the ongoing projects that we have seen, and we saw some of the heritage site, not to deface it but to restore them, to generally just preserve what we have for the tourism potential of Badagry.”

He said there was the need to tell a compelling story about what Badagry really is about.

“I’m very impressed, I’m satisfied,

“The roads have been done extensively, this is a journey that usually takes three hours; it took us an hour plus to get here,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu promised that in terms of good roads, no part of Lagos would be left out or underdeveloped.

“Tourism is a major cardinal on the T.H.EM.E.S agenda,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu said the partnership with the Diaspora Commission led by Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa would further attract both local and international audiences to Badagry and Lagos State as whole.

“The Diasporan Commission is with us, we have a Diaspora Agency in Lagos State.

“It’s really to make Lagos and Badagry in particular a tourist destination for all our international and local audiences to know that we’re ready.

” This tells a story about the entire journey around slavery and how Christianity came to the country through Badagry.

“I hope you have enjoyed the journey as I have, Badagry has a lot to offer and we are here for it,” the governor said.
