Amidst the ongoing leadership dispute in Kano State, security personnel, comprising police, soldiers, DSS and other operatives, have cordoned off both the Gidan Sarki Nasarawa, where the dethroned emir resides, and the palace of the current Emir.

The story is the same at the Kano State Government House.

Though no official statement has been made regarding the reason for their presence, a source within the security outfits who spoke on condition of anonymity told The Punch that security operatives were deployed to the three places to enhance security.

The sources said deployment of security personnel was necessary to prevent supporters of the two monarchs from attacking the places.

Journalists monitoring the situation report that despite the ongoing debacle, the ancient city remains calm as residents continue with their normal and lawful businesses.

Meanwhile, the state governor, Abba Yusuf and other top officials were still with Emir Sanusi at the main palace while the deposed Emir remained in the Nasarawa palace.

Earlier in the day, Yusuf and the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, had a closed-door meeting with top security chiefs in the state.

The Top security chiefs including the Police Commissioner, Director of State Services, Army Brigade commander and NSCDC commander, have met the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, at the mini palace in the Nasarawa area of the state capital city.

When contacted, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna said the deployment of security personnel was a normal security deployment.

“The deployment of the security personnel is all over the state and it’s meant to enhance security in view of the current happenings,” Haruna said.
