The Nigerian police have rearrested a controversial social media critic and activist, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan at his Abuja residence on Sunday.
VDM’s law firm, Deji Adeyanju and Partners Chambers, conveyed this report through its X handle.
The report disclosed that VDM’s arrest follows his public exposure of an individual accused of defrauding a Nigerian citizen living abroad.

The message read: “Our client, @ThatVeryDarkMan, has just been arrested by the police on the orders of the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, Mr Benneth Igwe. for exposing someone who allegedly duped a Nigerian abroad.
“Instead of the police arresting the person alleged to have committed fraud, they arrested VDM on grounds of defamation.”
Recall that the controversial social media critic, was in May, remanded in police custody for cyberbullying and stalking.
Otse was arraigned at the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Wednesday, facing five counts of cyberstalking involving the Nigeria police and Nollywood actresses Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dike, to which he pleaded not guilty.
His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, applied for bail, but the police prosecuting team informed Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon that they needed more time to respond to the application, leading the court to adjourn the bail hearing to May 29.
The prosecution sought to have the blogger remanded in prison custody, but his lawyers successfully argued for his remand in police custody instead.
However, after spending over a week in police custody, he was released.
