Niger Delta elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark has urged the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun to arrest and prosecute the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on charges of treason.

This demand follows Wike’s alleged threats to “set fire” to states governed by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, after their governors visited Rivers State’s Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

Clark, in a letter read to journalists in Abuja, called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to allow his personal ties with Wike to undermine the rule of law. He emphasized that Wike’s inflammatory statements are a direct threat to public peace, urging the IGP to act swiftly.

Citing laws like the Public Officer Protection Act and the Violence Against Persons Protection Act, Clark argued that Wike’s actions constitute incitement and treason. He warned that failure to address this could lead to instability, especially in the PDP-controlled states Wike reportedly targeted.

“Wike has crossed the line and must be held accountable. He is juggling alliances between the PDP and APC to protect his own interests,” Clark remarked, accusing Wike of using political influence to safeguard wealth allegedly amassed during his tenure as Rivers State Governor. He called for a thorough investigation into Wike’s finances and real estate holdings.

Clark urged PDP leaders and all Nigerians to resist Wike’s alleged attempts to seize control of Rivers State’s political structure, stressing the importance of upholding justice and preventing further unrest.

Credible News recalls that on Monday, PDP said that it had invited Nyesom Wike to appear before the recently constituted Disciplinary Committee of the party to answer allegations of anti-party activities.

The party also described as disappointing Wike’s recent threat of setting political fire in states controlled by PDP governors who have declared support for their Rivers State counterpart, Siminalayi Fubara.

Deputy national publicity secretary of PDP, Ibrahim Abdullahi who disclosed this on Channels TV’s breakfast show, ‘Sunrise Daily’, said Wike should have been able to manage his words carefully, adding that the party does not support his comments.
