The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, has projected rainy and thundery weather conditions across various parts of the country from Monday to Wednesday.

The weather outlook, released on Sunday in Abuja, indicates the likelihood of isolated thunderstorms over northern states, including Katsina, Sokoto, Kano, Zamfara, Kebbi, Kaduna, Adamawa and Taraba, particularly on Monday morning.

Later in the day, more thunderstorms are expected in additional northern areas such as Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Yobe and more parts of Sokoto and Kebbi.

The central region, including Benue, Niger, the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Kogi and Kwara, should anticipate intermittent rains during the morning hours, with localized showers forecast for the afternoon and evening over Plateau, Niger, and Nasarawa states.

NiMet also predicts isolated rains in southern states such as Ebonyi, Abia, Imo, Enugu, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers and Cross River, continuing later in the day with showers over Ondo, Anambra, Osun, Oyo, Akwa Ibom, Ogun, and Edo.

On Tuesday, isolated thunderstorms are forecast for Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa and Taraba, with more storms expected in northern states later in the day, including Kaduna, Yobe, Kano, and Jigawa. Central states like Benue, Kogi, FCT and Nasarawa will see continued intermittent rains, while southern states can expect steady rainfall throughout the day.

For Wednesday, NiMet predicts thunderstorms in northern states such as Kebbi, Sokoto, Bauchi, Borno and Katsina in the morning, with afternoon thunderstorms likely in Taraba, Kano and Zamfara. Central and southern regions will experience morning and afternoon rains, with the possibility of moderate rainfall over parts of Abia, Ebonyi, Ondo, Edo, Rivers, and Delta.

NiMet urged residents to exercise caution, especially in flood-prone areas, as heavy rainfall could trigger urban flooding in major cities. Strong winds may accompany thunderstorms, so the public is advised to follow safety guidelines. Airline operators are also encouraged to stay updated with weather forecasts for smooth planning and operations.
