The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun has ordered the redeployment of several Commissioners of Police, CPs, in a bid to enhance the efficiency of Nigeria’s policing operations.
As part of this strategic move, CP Tunji Disu has been transferred from the Rivers State Police Command to the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Command. Meanwhile, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, previously in charge of Delta State, has been assigned to the Rivers State Police Command, and the former FCT CP, Peter Opara has been moved to head the Delta State Police Command.
In a statement released on Thursday, Force spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi said the redeployment would position the police force for more effective policing across the country.
The IGP has deployed four new CPs to state commands namely CP Danladi Nda to Abia State Command, CP Olanrewaju Ishola Olawale to Lagos State Command, CP Anthonia Adaku Uche-Anya to Ebonyi State Command and CP Festus Eribo to Akwa-Ibom State Command.

“The posting of these strategic managers reflects the mission of the Inspector-General of Police to strategically reposition the Police Force and ensure maximum utilization of human resources available to the Force.
“The IGP has, however, urged the new CPs of State Commands to ensure diligence in the discharge of their lawful duties and adopt innovations that could mitigate security challenges in their respective areas of responsibility,” the statement read.
IGP Egbetokun urged the newly assigned CPs to align with ongoing police reform efforts, emphasizing that their leadership would contribute to both the progress of the Nigeria Police Force and the nation’s overall security and development.
The recent redeployment of police commissioners echoes previous strategic moves, such as those seen during the 2023 election duty redeployment. At that time, senior officers like AIG Abutu Yaro and CP Okon Effiong were reassigned to ensure the Nigeria Police Force could effectively manage security and maintain order during the electoral process.
