Mr. Kennedy Iyere, the governorship candidate for the Accord Party, has officially withdrawn from the 2024 Edo State gubernatorial election.

Kennedy Iyere has expressed that serving as a governor would impose limitations on his capabilities, prompting his decision to withdraw from the Edo gubernatorial race. Iyere cited his desire to serve Nigeria at a higher level, aiming to address pressing national issues such as food insecurity and youth unemployment through initiatives like his “Food4All Initiative.” The multi-billion dollar program, which he presented to President Bola Tinubu, seeks to achieve food security and employment through the “One-Family-One-Farmer Scheme.”

Iyere’s decision to step down was also influenced by internal party conflicts, including an alleged conspiracy by his running mate, Bright Enabulele, to overturn his candidacy. Despite these challenges, Iyere encouraged voters in Edo State to avoid violence and vote conscientiously, advocating for equitable power rotation among the state’s three Senatorial Districts.

“I am assisting the federal government in devising a roadmap for economic inclusion, engagement, and the deradicalization of youth,” Iyere stated. He is focused on designing and implementing social intervention programs aimed at combating unemployment and enhancing entrepreneurial opportunities for both youth and women.

These programs are set to officially launch in October 2024, with a vision of placing Nigeria back on a path to rapid economic recovery. Iyere envisions creating over six million youth and women entrepreneurs through the initiative, which will target various sectors including agriculture, technology, entertainment, and innovation.

“More than six million youth and women entrepreneurs (as MSME owners and operators) shall be created or produced within the first one year of the official kick-off of this entrepreneurship programme. Nigerian youths and women lack access to the business capital required as entrepreneurs to either start up a new business or operate an existing business. This programme will squarely address that essential need,” he added.

He also emphasized that his new path is driven by a selfless desire to serve all Nigerians, rather than engaging in partisan politics.
