The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Monday Okpebholo has been declared winner in the governorship election held in Edo State on Saturday.
The Returning Officer, Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta said results from 18 local governments showed that Okpebholo secured a total of 291,667 votes.
His closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party garnered 247,274votes.
Olumide Akpata, the Labour Party candidate finished third, scoring 22,763 votes.
Professor Kuta, said: “Monday Okpebholo, having fulfilled the requirements of the law and got the highest votes is the winner and is returned elected”.
Meanwhile, outgoing governor Godwin Obaseki has sued for calm and urged citizens to avoid any confrontation and open protest against the outcome of the election.
He said his party will seek justice at the appropriate time.
