Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Monday, swore in the newly elected chairpersons and vice chairpersons of the state’s 16 local government areas during a ceremony at the Government House in Ilorin.

The governor urged the new officials to “be prudent with power and work with the people” for the benefit of all. He congratulated the chairpersons, their families, party leaders, and community stakeholders for their roles in the election process.

Governor AbdulRazaq advised the chairmen to set realistic goals, focus on their legacies, and be fair and attentive to the needs of the people. He also emphasized the importance of sensitivity during the current economic reforms, urging the new officials to avoid personal indulgence while citizens face challenges.

Governor AbdulRazaq expressed satisfaction with the voter turnout and peaceful atmosphere during the election, reinforcing that democracy is thriving in Kwara State. Despite some logistical delays, the process was described as smooth and orderly by candidates and election officials alike.

In his closing remarks, the governor encouraged collaboration and creativity among the local governments to achieve greater successes, calling on the chairpersons to prove their worth in office. He wished them success in their new roles.

At the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission, KWSIEC, headquarters in Ilorin, Chairman Baba Okanla announced the results of the local government elections, confirming that the All Progressives Congress, APC, secured all 16 Local Government Area chairmanship positions and won all 193 councilorship seats.

The election took place across the state’s 16 LGAs and 193 wards, with five political parties—APC, APM, PDP, SDP, and Accord participating. The election was conducted on Saturday, September 21.

Okanla praised the political parties for maintaining peace throughout the election and commended the people of Kwara State for turning out in large numbers to exercise their civic rights. He also expressed appreciation for the security agencies, whose professionalism ensured a peaceful and orderly election process.

Mr. Sunday Fagbemi, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Kwara State, congratulated the 16 newly elected council chairmen and 193 councilors following the APC’s sweeping victory in the recent local government elections.

In a statement issued in Ilorin, Fagbemi hailed the results as a “triumph of democracy” and attributed the win to the development projects initiated by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. He urged the newly elected officials to focus on equitable development and fulfilling their campaign promises.

Fagbemi praised KWSIEC for conducting a peaceful and well-organized election, and commended the governor for his support of the electoral body. Fagbemi encouraged the newly elected chairmen to serve with dedication, aligning their work with the party’s vision and values to promote sustained development throughout the state.
