No fewer than 10 persons were killed as three others got injured in an accident along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in the Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos State.
The tragedy occurred late Tuesday night, around 11:00 PM, when a Toyota Sienna with plate number BDG 342 FS collided with a stationary truck loaded with granite.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, confirmed the fatalities in a statement on Wednesday. He explained that the accident claimed the lives of three adult men, four adult women, two young girls, and one boy.
The ill-fated Sienna was reportedly returning from the Eastern part of Nigeria when it experienced brake failure and crashed into the granite-laden truck, which was parked on the road and blocking half of the carriageway. The driver, unaware of the obstruction, rammed into the truck at high speed.

Emergency responders, including LASEMA officials and other stakeholders, rushed to the scene to mitigate the number of casualties. Despite their efforts, ten individuals succumbed to their injuries. Three critically injured passengers—one woman and two children—were rescued by the Federal Road Safety Corps and taken to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
Further investigations disclosed the truck was improperly parked, creating a dangerous obstruction on the road. The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit for transfer to the mortuary while authorities work to locate their families.
Oke-Osanyintolu expressed sorrow over the loss of lives, emphasizing the need for increased road safety measures and proper parking regulations to prevent such accidents in the future. The severely damaged Sienna was later towed from the scene by LASEMA officials.
