The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, announced on Wednesday, the recovery of N13 billion in diverted public funds in September.

ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Aliyu, SAN, hailed the recovery as a significant milestone in the commission’s ongoing battle against corruption.

At the launch of the ICPC’s Strategic Action Plan for 2024-2028 in Abuja, Aliyu underscored the commission’s progress in fulfilling its mandate, emphasizing that the N13 billion recovery reflects its relentless efforts toward accountability and transparency.

“This impressive achievement is just one example of how we have worked tirelessly to combat corruption. In addition, we are advancing ICT reforms to digitalize our operations, which will enhance efficiency in investigations, case management, and internal processes,” Aliyu stated.

He also highlighted the commission’s efforts to strengthen its workforce, including the development of a specialized curriculum to enhance the capacity of its personnel in handling complex corruption cases. The ICPC is also decentralizing its anti-corruption efforts by collaborating with state attorneys-general, equipping them with tools and resources to fight corruption at the local level.

In line with this initiative, the commission hosted a conference with more than 30 state attorneys-general in September to foster collaboration. Aliyu noted that the ICPC is intensifying its efforts to prevent corruption by conducting system studies and corruption risk assessments while engaging Anti-Corruption and Transparency Units across ministries, departments, and agencies.

The Strategic Action Plan 2024-2028, rooted in the ICPC’s “CARE for Impact” framework (Culture, Accountability, Responsibility, and Efficiency), aligns with national policies such as the Nigeria Agenda 2050 and the National Anti-Corruption Strategy. It aims to build on past successes and establish a comprehensive roadmap for future efforts to institutionalize integrity and transparency across Nigeria.

Aliyu stressed the importance of collaboration and partnerships in ensuring the success of the plan, emphasizing that the fight against corruption requires collective sacrifice and commitment from all stakeholders.
