In a tragic incident, gunmen abducted and killed the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Suru Local Government Area of Kebbi State, Alhaji Bako Bala, on Wednesday.
The armed assailants reportedly kidnapped him in his hometown and, after shooting him, left him critically injured in a pool of blood. Bala was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kebbi, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The news was confirmed through a post by Alhaji Zaidu Bala Kofa Sabuwa, the Special Adviser to the Kebbi State Governor on Television and Radio, via his official Facebook page.
The attack has sent shockwaves through the local community and the APC, as Bala was known for his influential role within the party. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the assailants were heavily armed and targeted Bala specifically, highlighting the ongoing security challenges faced in the region
In a separate but related development, bandits allegedly abducted another person in Matseri village, Bunza Local Government Area, and shot a young man who is now receiving treatment at the same Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kebbi.

Despite ongoing efforts by security forces, supported by the state government, to dismantle criminal hideouts, Kebbi State continues to experience a surge in kidnappings and violent attacks. Repeated attempts to contact the state police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Abubakar, for comments on the situation have so far been unsuccessful.
