Covenant University has claimed the top position in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024, solidifying its reputation as a leader in Nigerian higher education.
In this year’s rankings, which evaluated 1,907 universities from 108 countries, Covenant University outperformed its Nigerian counterparts, including the University of Ibadan, Federal University of Technology Akure, and the University of Lagos, which ranked second, third, and fourth, respectively.
The assessment was based on 18 performance indicators across five critical areas, teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement, and international outlook. The rankings also highlight a significant shift in the global higher education landscape, analyzing over 134 million citations from 16.5 million research publications and gathering survey responses from more than 68,000 scholars worldwide.
Other notable Nigerian institutions in the top ten include Bayero University, University of Ilorin, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and Afe Babalola University, with the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta rounding out the list in tenth place.
This ranking not only highlights Covenant University’s leadership in Nigeria but also underscores its growing influence on the global stage, as it falls within the global ranking band of 800-1000.
