Liverpool faces a significant setback as their first-choice goalkeeper, Alisson Becker is ruled out for approximately six weeks due to a hamstring injury.
The injury occurred during the team’s narrow 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace, where Alisson was substituted in the 79th minute after feeling discomfort.
This latest injury marks Alisson’s second hamstring issue this season, raising concerns about his fitness. Scans have confirmed that he will be unavailable until after the upcoming international break in November, which means he will miss crucial Premier League matches against Chelsea and Arsenal, as well as fixtures against Brighton and Aston Villa. Additionally, he will not participate in Carabao Cup and Champions League matches against RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen.

In Alisson’s absence, Liverpool will rely on Caoimhin Kelleher, who is expected to step in as the starting goalkeeper. Kelleher had previously missed the match against Crystal Palace due to illness but has proven himself capable in past seasons when Alisson was sidelined.
Third-choice goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros also made his debut during the Crystal Palace match and may see more action as Liverpool navigates this challenging period.
Head coach Arne Slot acknowledged the impact of losing Alisson, calling him “the best goalkeeper in the world,” and expressed confidence in his team’s depth to manage through this tough stretch.
If Alisson’s recovery progresses as expected, he could return for the match against Southampton on November 24, followed by a highly anticipated encounter with Real Madrid three days later.
Liverpool’s first game following the November international break is at Southampton on 24 November, before they then face Real Madrid, Manchester City, Newcastle United and local rivals Everton.
