The Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, has given property owners in Abuja a three-month ultimatum to develop their uncompleted and undeveloped properties or face severe consequences, including possible demolition.
The notice was issued by the Abuja Municipal Management Council’s Coordinator, Felix Obuah, who voiced concerns over the growing number of illegal structures and shanties in the Federal Capital City.
According to the FCTA, these unoccupied buildings and undeveloped plots have become shelters for individuals involved in criminal activities, posing a significant threat to the safety of Abuja residents. Obuah emphasized that the Administration will not tolerate the continued misuse of these properties.
Property owners have been instructed to secure and develop their plots or risk the revocation of their land titles and demolition of their buildings. The directive serves as a proactive step by the FCTA to improve security and prevent the rise of informal settlements in the city.

“The FCT Administration has noted with concern the rapid expansion of shanties and squatters within uncompleted buildings and undeveloped plots across the Federal Capital City. The Administration has also observed that these buildings and plots are being used as hideouts by men of questionable character, thereby posing a serious security challenge to residents.”
“In view of the foregoing, all owners of these abandoned and uncompleted buildings, as well as undeveloped plots, are hereby directed to immediately develop and secure the properties within three months from the date of this announcement.”
“Failure to comply with this directive may result in appropriate actions, including the revocation of titles and the demolition of such abandoned structures,” the document read.
The FCTA is determined to enforce this measure strictly, warning that non-compliance could lead to drastic actions against property holders failing to meet the three-month deadline.
