The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, said the Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination for private candidates, 2024– Second Series will begin from Friday for a week.

In a statement released on Tuesday, WAEC confirmed that this year’s examination would employ a hybrid mode of administration.

Candidates will respond to objective or multiple-choice questions on-screen, while essay and practical questions will also be displayed digitally, requiring candidates to use provided answer booklets for their responses.

For those preferring traditional methods, a Paper and Pen option will be available for the entire examination. Additionally, WAEC has extended the registration deadline to Tuesday, October 29, 2024.

The examination will also allow “Walk-in Candidates,” who can register within 24 hours before their chosen paper. The final timetable for the exams can be downloaded from the WAEC Nigeria website.

WAEC encourages all candidates, both intending and registered, to utilize various learning resources available through the Council. This includes the WAEC e-Study platform, the purchase of Past Questions and Answers books, and interactions on the WAECKonnect platform.

WAEC wishes all candidates the best of luck and remains committed to using technological innovations to enhance service delivery for all stakeholders.

WAEC is an examination board established by law to determine the examinations required in the public interest in the English-speaking West African countries, to conduct the examinations and to award certificates comparable to those of equivalent examining authorities internationally. Established in 1952, the council conducts exit examination in 5 English-speaking countries of West Africa (Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and the Gambia). The council has an endowment fund, to contribute to education in West Africa, through lectures and aid to those who cannot afford education.

Dr. Adeyegbe, former head of WAEC Nigeria (2004) said “the council has developed a team of well-trained and highly motivated staff, and has administered Examinations that are valid and relevant to the educational aspirations of member countries”. In a year, over three million candidates registered for the exams coordinated by WAEC.[4] The council also helps other examination bodies (both local and international) in coordinating Examinations.
