Sofia Horsfall has been named the new General Manager, External Relations, for Nigeria LNG, NLNG, taking over from Andy Odeh, who retires after 26 years of dedicated service.

Announced to take effect on November 1, 2024, the transition was celebrated during a press briefing in Lagos, where Odeh expressed confidence in Horsfall’s capacity to bring fresh ideas to the role.

Reflecting on her new position, Horsfall expressed gratitude for Odeh’s leadership and highlighted the importance of maintaining NLNG’s long-standing relationships with stakeholders.

“This new role is a time for introspection to ensure that the relationships developed over the years are sustainably maintained,” she noted. She thanked Odeh for his commitment, which she said had built a powerful partnership between NLNG and the media.

Horsfall also shared her vision for NLNG’s rebranding, describing it as an expression of a commitment to “a future where clean, accessible, and reliable energy is a reality for all.” Embracing the company’s reimagined brand, “Inspiring a Sustainable Future,” Horsfall emphasized NLNG’s pledge to advance innovation and global impact.

Addressing the media, she acknowledged their pivotal role in sharing NLNG’s journey and milestones over the past 25 years, noting: “Your support, time, and insights are vital to our continued success.”

“As I step into this role, I look forward to deepening the invaluable collaboration we have built. Together, we have the power to elevate NLNG’s influence and aspirations to new heights, and I am excited to partner with each of you to bring our shared vision to life. Thank you for your warm welcome and steadfast support as we embark on this bold new chapter,” she added.

NLNG also officially launched a new logo and trade name as part of a rebranding strategy aimed at aligning with changing global energy trends. The announcement was made during the annual Grand Award Night held in Lagos.

Dr. Philip Mshelbila, NLNG’s Managing Director and CEO, introduced the simplified trade name—NLNG—alongside a new identity and purpose statement: “Providing Energy to Improve Lives Sustainably,” and a refreshed tagline, “Inspiring a Sustainable Future.”

In his address, Dr. Mshelbila emphasized the importance of this transformation, marking it as a crucial milestone in the company’s evolution. “This is not just a celebration of our achievements; it signifies the beginning of a new chapter—one that aims to redefine our impact and future,” he stated.

The redesigned logo reflects a forward-thinking identity, showcasing NLNG’s commitment to purposeful leadership and sustainability. Dr. Mshelbila noted that the rebranding represents NLNG’s goal of being more than merely an energy provider.

“Our logo embodies a fresh outlook and our determination to lead with purpose. It symbolizes our dynamic nature, grounded in a history of excellence, while looking ahead with optimism and bravery. The core of our rebranding is our pledge to inspire and innovate toward a sustainable future, in line with global objectives and the evolving needs of our stakeholders.

“Our purpose statement, ‘Providing Energy to Improve Lives Sustainably,’ highlights our goal to create a lasting positive impact. As we navigate the complexities of the global energy market, we are committed to delivering not just energy but also solutions that uplift lives and promote a better world. This entails advancing sustainable practices, investing in innovative technologies, and collaborating to tackle the challenges ahead,” he elaborated.

Dr. Mshelbila acknowledged the significant challenges and responsibilities facing the energy sector today, stating that sustainability and innovation have become imperative for shaping the future. “The promise and responsibility of the future are vast,” he remarked, calling for collective efforts to address upcoming challenges while promoting sustainable practices and innovation.

He reaffirmed NLNG’s dedication to making lasting contributions and fostering progress aligned with global sustainability goals, urging stakeholders to join in shaping a future where energy fuels progress and builds a better world for future generations.

During the Grand Award Night, NLNG also celebrated its 35th anniversary of incorporation, 25 years of operational success, and 20 years of The Nigeria Prize for Science and The Nigeria Prize for Literature.
