Stephen Abuwatseya has issued a public apology to Alex Ikwechegh, the House of Representatives member for Aba North/South, after an altercation that occurred during a package delivery.
In a video statement released on Thursday, Abuwatseya expressed regret for his actions that led to the incident, which resulted in Ikwechegh physically assaulting him.
The driver apologized for provoking the lawmaker, acknowledging that his actions may have contributed to the anger displayed by Ikwechegh. He urged Nigerians to forgive him and stressed the importance of unity, saying, “It’s not the time to let religion, tribe, or region divide us. Let’s work together to move Nigeria forward.”
Abuwatseya also referenced the principles of forgiveness, quoting from the Lord’s Prayer, and appealed for healing, asking for Nigerians’ understanding. “Please, let’s forgive and forget,” he added. He also extended his gratitude to his family and supporters for standing by him throughout the ordeal.

In response, Ikwechegh also issued a public apology, acknowledging his improper conduct and offering an apology to Abuwatseya, the Nigerian Police Force, and the National Assembly. He explained that both parties had resolved the matter through alternative dispute resolution, leading to a respectful and mutually agreed settlement.
