The Kano State Judicial Service Commission has recalled two Shariah Court judges, Yusuf Kawu and Abdulmuminu Nuhu, along with Magistrate Nasir Ado, for alleged misconduct.
Additionally, court registrars Salisu Nayola and Shamsu Abbas were directed to proceed on compulsory retirement due to serious breaches of conduct.
This disciplinary action was announced in a statement by Baba Jibo Ibrahim, spokesperson for the Kano State Judiciary, following the commission’s 76th meeting, which adopted recommendations from the Judiciary Public Complaint Committee, JPCC.
The JPCC had received two petitions against Magistrate Nasir Ado, revealing that he had falsified court records and tampered with proceedings. The commission deemed this as gross misconduct, resulting in Ado’s immediate recall from judicial duties.
Shariah Court judge Yusuf Kawu was accused by the Association of Fighting Criminals of using his position to unlawfully release a convict serving a 12-month sentence. Following the JPCC’s investigation, the commission ruled Kawu’s actions indefensible, recalling him from his judicial role.

In another case, Magistrate Sanusi Usman Atana received a stern warning after being found to have exceeded his authority. Atana allegedly granted bail prematurely in one case and improperly intervened in a property recovery case. The commission cautioned him against overstepping his jurisdiction in the future.
Court registrar Salisu Adamu Nayola faced charges of collecting bribes from families of deceased persons while processing inheritance claims. Investigations disclosed Nayola’s involvement in these actions, along with alleged collusion with judge Abdulmuminu Nuhu. As a result, Nayola was retired compulsorily, while Nuhu was recalled from judicial duties for a two-year period under close supervision.
The commission also issued warnings and disciplinary actions against other officials. Judge Abubakar Abdullahi was warned to stay within his designated jurisdiction, while Shuaibu Bello, a court messenger, faced suspension for four months without pay due to excessive fees, rudeness to a court user, and attempting to mislead a petitioner. Court registrar Shamsu Abbas was retired after it was found that he had improperly released a suspect on bail and issued financial orders beyond his authority.
The commission reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing accountability among judiciary staff to uphold public trust in Kano’s judicial system.
