The Nigerian Police Force has confirmed the identification and detention of officers allegedly involved in the extortion of N2.3 million from one Mr. Nwosu Ndubuisi.
The announcement was made by the Zone 7 Police Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP M.B. Abdulkadir, in a statement released on Friday via X formerly Twitter.
According to Abdulkadir, a thorough investigation into the extortion case led to the identification of the officers involved, who have now been detained. He further disclosed that the N2.3 million extorted from Ndubuisi has been recovered and returned to the victim.
“Further to the earlier statement issued on the alleged extortion of one Mr. Ndubuisi Nwosu by some officers of Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, investigation was carried out, and the officers allegedly involved have been identified and detained,” Abdulkadir said. “Disciplinary proceedings have commenced against them.”

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in Charge of Zone 7 Headquarters, AIG Benneth C. Igweh, reaffirmed the commitment to transparency and accountability under the leadership of Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun. “The Zone will update the public on the outcome of the disciplinary proceedings against the defaulters,” Igweh assured.
This incident was initially brought to public attention by Harrison Gwamnishu, an X user, who posted that officers had extorted N2.3 million from Ndubuisi. Reports indicated that Ndubuisi was coerced into selling his laptop at Banex Plaza in Abuja to raise the money for his bail.
Following these allegations, AIG Igweh swiftly ordered an investigation into the matter, demonstrating the Police Force’s commitment to upholding justice and accountability.
