In a swift and coordinated rescue operation, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, alongside other emergency services, successfully rescued a Toyota Camry driver trapped under a 40-foot container at Mile 2.

The incident occurred when the container, en route to Apapa, fell onto the vehicle with registration number LSR 293 HJ. LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed the rescue in a statement signed by Mr. Taofiq Adebayo, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment at LASTMA.

The driver, who survived the ordeal, was rushed to a hospital for immediate medical attention. Security during the operation was ensured by officers from the Kirikiri Police Division, while the Camry was extricated from beneath the container. Efforts to evacuate the container are ongoing.

Bakare-Oki emphasized the importance of securing containers properly to prevent such accidents, urging truck owners and drivers to adhere to safety protocols.

He stressed that negligence in this regard endangers lives and property, urging strict compliance with road safety protocols to avert such catastrophic occurrences.

“LASTMA remains unwavering in its commitment to ensuring the safety and efficiency of Lagos roadways and continues to work collaboratively with relevant stakeholders to uphold traffic laws and enhance public safety,” Bakare-Oki stated.

Lagos State Traffic Management Authority is a Lagos State-owned agency under the Ministry of Transportation. The agency was established on the 15th of July, 2000 to transform the state transportation system to ensure free flow of traffic in the state and also reduce road accidents. The current head of the agency is Mr. Bolaji Oreagba who before his appointment was the Director of Operations in LASTMA.
