On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu congratulated the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, for successfully revitalizing the Port Harcourt Refinery.
In his statement, Tinubu also urged the company to prioritize the reactivation of the second Port Harcourt refinery, as well as the Warri and Kaduna refineries, to further enhance the nation’s oil production capacity.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga shared this information with journalists.
The statement highlighted Tinubu’s acknowledgment of the significant efforts made by former President Muhammadu Buhari in initiating the comprehensive rehabilitation of Nigeria’s refineries.
Tinubu also expressed gratitude to the African Export-Import Bank for supporting the project financially.
Furthermore, the President commended the leadership of NNPC Limited’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mele Kyari, for his dedication and perseverance in overcoming challenges that led to the successful revival of the Port Harcourt refinery. Tinubu emphasized the need for NNPC Limited to continue its efforts in bringing the other refineries back into operation as scheduled.

Credible News recalls that after multiple delays, the Port Harcourt Refinery in Rivers State commenced crude oil processing on Tuesday.
This development was communicated by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPCL, Femi Soneye who maintained that the groundbreaking milestone signifies an era of economic prosperity.
“Today marks a monumental achievement for Nigeria as the Port Harcourt Refinery officially commences crude oil processing. This groundbreaking milestone signifies a new era of energy independence and economic growth for our nation.
“Hearty congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the NNPC Board, and the exceptional leadership of GCEO Mele Kyari for their unwavering commitment to this transformative project. Together, we are reshaping Nigeria’s energy future!,” Soneye said.
Soneye said truck loading will also commence on Tuesday (today), adding that the NNPCL is “working tirelessly to bring the Warri Refinery back online soon”.
Tuesday’s move ends a series of failed deadlines for the commencement of production at the refinery in Nigeria’s oil-rich Rivers State.
