Davido gets it hot for passing negative comments on Africa
Afro-beat superstar, David Adeleke popularly known as Davido on Monday came under heavy criticisms over his negative comments on living conditions in Africa.

Davido, in a recent interview, had issued a stern warning to black Americans against relocating to Africa.
He warned them against making such moves, as he made them know that it wasn’t cool in Africa as the economy was in shambles.
The singer however, made it known that he wasn’t badmouthing Africa; rather, he wanted to show off the little parts and leave the slums out of the frame.
Reacting to these comments on the latest edition of Your View on TVC Akashat Nymat, a presenter questioned what service Davido has done for the masses, as she noted how American celebrities wouldn’t badmouth their country to foreigners.
Also, former aide to Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri slammed Davido, questioning how the economy was in shambles when Wizkid broke streaming records on Spotify Nigeria with his new album, Morayo.

He told Davido to fact-check as he noted how people don’t have disposable income in an economy that is in shambles.

In a series of posts on X, Davido maintained his position as a “real ambassador” of Nigeria.
Port Harcourt refinery resumes operation.
The stars aligned for Nigerians on Tuesday as news broke that the Port Harcourt refinery had resumed operations, dispensing premium motor spirit, commonly known as fuel.

The announcement sparked widespread relief and optimism across the nation, offering a glimmer of hope amidst lingering energy challenges.
After years of shutdown and rehabilitation, the Port Harcourt Refinery has finally resumed production of petroleum products, with the first batch of lifting of petrol commencing on Tuesday.
The rehabilitation of the refinery has ongoing since 2021, following the $1.5 billion contract approved by the Federal Government for the purpose.
Located at Alesa Eleme in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the refinery complex comprises two operational units established in 1965 and 1989 and with a combined installed capacity of 210,000 barrels per day.
The older plant has a capacity of 60,000 barrels per stream day, while the newer plant has 150,000 barrels per day capacity.
However, there were counter reports that the refinery has not commenced the operation of processing crude oil as claimed by the NNPCL but rather getting off old stock. Though the NNPCL has soon come out to debunk this claims, affirming that the refinery is active.
Tinubu’s controversial tax reform bills passes second reading
The controversial tax reform bills also made it to the news as the Nigerian senate, on Thursday passed for a second reading the four bills through voice votes.

The bills include a proposal to establish the Joint Revenue Board, the Tax Appeal Tribunal, and the Office of the Tax Ombudsman, all part of President Bola Tinubu’s comprehensive tax reform package.
The proposed tax reform bills had faced stiff opposition especially from the Northern region, as they believed that the bills are deliberate attempt to cripple the Northern economy.
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum among others, voicing strong concerns over the controversial tax reform bills, warned that it could have devastating consequences for the Northern region and other parts of the country.
In an interview with BBC Hausa on Friday, Zulum criticised the speed with which the bill is progressing through the legislative process, drawing comparisons to the Petroleum Industry Bill, which took nearly two decades to pass.
Zulum further alleged that some individuals might be influencing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu into believing that the North does not support his administration.
The governor warned that if the bill is passed, Northern states would struggle to implement developmental projects, including paying salaries.
However, in all of these, the presidency has moved to calm the nerves of oppositions, affirming that the tax reform bills will not in anyway economically destabilise the North.
The Presidency said contrary to job loss fears and perceived marginalisation of the North, the tax reform bills currently before the national assembly will benefit all states and harmonise the country’s tax laws for greater efficiency.
