The Nigeria Police Force, NPF, has debunked allegations linking its officers to a circulating video showing uniformed personnel scooping fuel from a crashed tanker.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi claimed that those featured in the video were not Nigerian police officers but personnel from a francophone country.
“The viral video showing uniformed personnel in camouflage uniforms allegedly scooping fuel from an accident site is a baseless attempt to tarnish the image of the Nigeria Police Force. Investigations disclosed that the individuals in the footage are not members of the NPF,” Adejobi stated.
According to the statement, the uniforms worn by the individuals resemble those of the NPF, but the personnel spoke in French rather than English or any Nigerian language, further proving they were from a neighboring francophone nation.

The NPF condemned the circulation of what it termed “false and unverified information,” urging Nigerians to refrain from sharing content that could undermine public institutions.
“We strongly denounce the dissemination of misleading narratives aimed at discrediting the Nigeria Police Force. Such actions harm our collective national unity and the integrity of security agencies working tirelessly to ensure public safety,” Adejobi noted.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the NPF under the Inspector-General of Police to maintaining professionalism and discipline while safeguarding the lives and properties of Nigerians.
The Force also called on citizens to verify information before sharing it to avoid the spread of disinformation that could disrupt societal harmony.
“Let us work together to promote national unity and uphold the credibility of our institutions by ensuring the authenticity of information shared online,” the statement concluded.
