The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo  has approved new measures aimed at improving the passenger experience and curbing corruption at Nigeria’s international airports.

These reforms, introduced under the initiative “Operation Air Clean,” are designed to tackle the harassment of travelers by government agencies and reduce passenger complaints.

Key measures include the dissolution of joint inspection tables at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, in favor of intelligence-driven searches and advanced scanners for faster security checks.

Additionally, passenger processing will be streamlined by consolidating checkpoints, while officers from different agencies, such as the Department of State Services and Immigration Service, will share counters to minimize congestion.

Other key reforms include activating mobile courts for quicker prosecution of offenders, especially touts, and enforcing a zero-tolerance policy against unauthorized Bureau de Change and car-hire operators.

New airport facilities, such as improved lighting, better signage, free Wi-Fi for passengers, and designated meet-and-greet areas, will also be introduced to enhance the airport experience.

FAAN’s Managing Director, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku has called on stakeholders and the public to support “Operation Air Clean,” emphasizing the importance of collaboration in creating a safer, more efficient airport environment.
