Zenith Bank Plc has emerged as the ‘Bank of the Year, Nigeria’ at The Banker’s Bank of the Year Awards 2024.

The prestigious award, announced by The Banker Magazine, part of the Financial Times Group in the UK, on December 4, recognizes the bank’s strong leadership, sound business model, and commitment to sustainability and ESG practices.

The ‘Bank of the Year’ award is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious honors in the banking industry, with leading financial institutions from across the globe competing for the title. Winners represent regions including Africa, Asia-Pacific, Central and Eastern Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, North America, and Western Europe. In response to the recognition, Dame (Dr.) Adaora Umeoji, OON, Group Managing Director/CEO of Zenith Bank Plc, expressed.

She also praised the visionary leadership of Jim Ovia, Founder and Chairman of Zenith Bank, for his role in shaping a globally recognized institution that excels in innovation and performance, creating value for all stakeholders.

As part of its global expansion strategy, Zenith Bank launched its Paris Branch in November 2024, following approval from France’s banking regulator, the Autorité de Contrôle Prudentiel et de Résolution , ACPR.  This move aligns with the bank’s goal to serve clients internationally, wherever their business needs take them.

Zenith Bank has been consistently recognized for its exceptional performance, with this latest award adding to a growing list of accolades. These include being named the Number One Bank in Nigeria by Tier-1 Capital for the fifteenth consecutive year in The Banker’s 2024 Top 1000 World Banks ranking. Additionally, the bank was named Bank of the Year, Nigeria, in 2020 and 2022, and was honored as the Most Sustainable Bank in Nigeria at the International Banker 2023 and 2024 Banking Awards.

Other notable recognitions include being named Best Bank in Nigeria by Global Finance from 2020 to 2024, Best Commercial Bank, Nigeria, from 2021 to 2024 by World Finance,  and Best Corporate Governance Bank, Nigeria, in the World Finance Corporate Governance Awards for 2022, 2023, and 2024. The Ethical Boardroom also acknowledged Zenith as ‘Best in Corporate Governance, Financial Services, Africa’ from 2020 to 2023.

Zenith Bank’s dedication to excellence has earned it several prestigious awards, including Most Valuable Banking Brand in Nigeria in the Banker Magazine Top 500 Banking Brands for 2020 and 2021, Retail Bank of the Year from 2020 to 2022, and Bank of the Year 2023 at the BusinessDay BAFI Awards. Other accolades include Best Commercial Bank, Nigeria, and Best Innovation in Retail Banking, Nigeria, in the International Banker 2022 Banking Awards. Additionally, the bank was recognized as Bank of the Decade oeople’s Choice at the ThisDay Awards 2020, Bank of the Year 2021 by Champion Newspaper, and Bank of the Year 2022 by New Telegraph Newspaper. Zenith Bank was also named Best in MSME Trade Finance in 2023 by Nairametrics and Most Responsible Organization in Africa in 2021 by the SERAS Awards.
