The governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum has announced a plan to allocate N12.5 billion in 2025 for mass transit projects and road safety improvements.

This announcement was made during the presentation of the 2025 appropriation bill, dubbed the “Budget of Recovery and Continuity,” to the State Assembly.

Zulum shared that his administration intends to introduce a new fleet of buses for both intra-city and inter-city transportation to alleviate mobility issues. He also mentioned a partnership with private stakeholders to implement traffic management systems, which will include the installation of road signs, traffic lights, and pedestrian crossings in major towns.

Additionally, the governor emphasized the prioritization of rehabilitating damaged highways, particularly the Maiduguri-Damaturu road, to ensure safer travel throughout the state. In the 2025 budget, N8 billion has been earmarked for the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development to foster youth empowerment and sporting activities.

This funding will support the rehabilitation of the El-Kanemi Warriors Stadium and the construction of sports centers in Biu, Gwoza, and Maiduguri, along with organizing sports tournaments to engage the youth and uncover talents.

Moreover, the Borno State Government has allocated N15.8 billion to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to enhance social welfare and community development.

This funding aims to complete the construction of 100,000 housing units for displaced persons in Monguno, Konduga, and Ngala, as well as facilitate skills acquisition programs for over 20,000 women and youths, focusing on vocational skills such as tailoring and soap making.
