Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has officially signed the law establishing the Jigawa State Electricity Regulatory Commission to improve electricity regulation and access.
Credible news could recall that earlier this year, the state government made a pivotal move by establishing the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy. This initiative was designed to ensure that residents have access to reliable and inclusive energy solutions.
The formation of this ministry underscores the government’s commitment to addressing the various energy needs of the community, aiming to provide sustainable and efficient energy resources for everyone. By prioritizing renewable energy options, the government intends to foster a more resilient energy infrastructure that can support the ongoing growth and development of the state.
The new law emphasizes collaboration through Public-Private Partnerships aimed at enhancing energy infrastructure and service delivery, which is expected to boost electricity access for residents and create a favorable environment for private sector investment in the power sector.
The commission will oversee all aspects of electricity generation, transmission, system operation, distribution, and supply within the state. While signing the law on Monday at the Council’s Chamber in Government House, Dutse, Namadi highlighted its significance, stating, “This law is a vital step towards sustainable development and economic growth in Jigawa State.”
He further explained that the Jigawa State Electricity Regulatory Commission will manage various electricity solutions, including grid, mini-grid, and off-grid systems, utilizing both renewable and non-renewable energy sources to meet the state’s increasing energy demands.

Namadi reiterated his administration’s commitment to addressing the energy needs of the state, which he considers crucial for Jigawa’s development. He stressed the importance of enhancing electricity regulation and promoting innovative energy solutions.
He noted that the creation of the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy earlier this year reflects the administration’s dedication to energy development, with Dr. Sirajo Musa as the pioneer commissioner leading this initiative.
Namadi added, “The establishment of the Jigawa State Electricity Regulatory Commission is anticipated to enhance electricity availability and boost economic growth throughout the state. This initiative is in line with the federal government’s comprehensive electrification plan.”
