At least six people have reportedly lost their lives in a fatal car crash that happened along the Auyo-Adiyani road in Guri Local Government Area, Jigawa State.

This is coming barely 48 hours after 14 people reportedly lost their lives in a car accident near Tage Bridge in the Kafin Hausa Local Government Area of the State.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Jigawa State Command, DSP Shi’isu Lawan Adam noted that the first accident which occurred on Monday happened when a Golf 3 wagon, with the license plate GML 842 XA, flipped over and crashed into the river while traveling from Hadejia town to Makera village, Jigawa.

He said: “When we got a distress call, our men promptly moved to the scene of the accident, carried the victims to the nearest Hadejia General Hospital where a doctor on call confirmed the deaths of eight women, two men and four young men at the scene.

“The identities of the victims have not been released, pending notification of their families.”

The police spokesperson disclosed that the vehicle’s driver survived the crash and is now helping the police with their investigation regarding the cause of the accident.

However, the latest incident, described as a double tragedy for the community, happened on Tuesday night.

Sources disclosed that the victims, all members of the same family from Adiyani, were returning home from a condolence visit to the relatives of those who lost their lives in the previous accident.

Eyewitnesses reported that the community was still reeling from the shock of the earlier tragedy when the second accident struck, compounding their grief.

This latest crash brings the death toll from road accidents in Jigawa State to 20 within two days, raising fresh concerns about road safety in the region.

The Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the incident, stating that investigations were ongoing to determine the cause of the accident.
