An interim injunction has been issued by the Osun State High Court in Ilesa against Governor Ademola Adeleke and his officials.
This order prevents them from appointing Prince Clement Adesuyi or members of the Haastrup family.
The legal intervention follows the death of Oba Gabriel Aromolaran in September 2024, who passed away after a 42-year reign. Following his death, multiple ruling families expressed interest in succeeding him, and the kingmakers began preparations to screen potential candidates.
However, Prince Debo Adeyemi, Prince Adeboye Adewale, and nine other members of the Ofokutu Royal Family filed a motion in court, urging Justice Adeyinka Aderibigbe to intervene.

The plaintiffs argued that the ongoing selection process, including the collection of a N10 million nomination fee from candidates, was improper. They sought a restraining order to halt the process.
In her ruling, Justice Aderibigbe granted the plaintiffs’ request for an interim injunction, which prevents the Ilesa West Local Government, Governor Adeleke, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and the Attorney General of Osun State from taking any further steps in the selection or appointment of the new Owa-Obokun.
In her ruling, Justice Aderibigbe stated:
“An order of interim injunction is granted, restraining the 14th (Ilesa West Local Government), 20th (Osun State Governor), 21st (Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs), and 22nd (Attorney General of Osun State) from taking steps regarding the presentation, nomination, selection, election, or installing or appointing the 16th defendant (Prince Clement Adesuyi) or any person as Owa of Ijesa land or Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesa land, or taking further steps as regards the subject matter of this suit pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”
The court has adjourned the case to January 14, 2025, when the motion on notice will be heard, and the matter further considered.
