A fighter jet mistakenly bombed two villages in the Silame Local Government Area of Sokoto State, resulting in the deaths of many innocent villagers and leaving several others wounded.
The tragic incident occurred around 7 am Wednesday when the jet, which was reportedly targeting Lakurawa terrorists, inadvertently struck the peaceful communities of Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa.
The villagers, who were going about their daily lives in a calm and quiet environment, were caught off guard by the sudden and devastating airstrike.
Reports indicate that the bombs dropped without warning, causing chaos and destruction in what was otherwise a serene morning. The targeted villages had no connection to any form of criminal activity or terrorism. They were populated by innocent, peace-loving residents who had no involvement in any militant movements.

Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad Daftarana, the Chairman of Silame Local Government Area, expressed his profound shock and sorrow over the bombing, describing the incident as heartbreaking.
He emphasized that the victims were not fighters, but simple villagers who had no ties to any criminal organization. “The villagers were sitting peacefully when the bombs started dropping on the communities,” Daftarana remarked. “They were innocent and peace-loving people who had no criminal record.”
In the aftermath of the attack, Daftarana explained that it was still too early to provide an accurate count of casualties, as rescue operations and assessments of the damage were still ongoing. “We are still assessing the situation,” he said, acknowledging that the full extent of the loss and destruction would take time to fully understand.
The bombing has left the affected communities in mourning and disbelief, as the residents struggle to comprehend the senseless loss of life. While authorities continue their investigation into the cause of the attack, there is a growing call for greater accountability and measures to prevent such devastating mistakes in the future.
The people of Silame and the wider Sokoto State now face the painful task of coming to terms with the aftermath of this tragic error.
