Stanley Nwabali, the Super Eagles goalkeeper currently playing for South African club Chippa United, is grieving the loss of his mother, just months after he announced the death of his father.

The 28-year-old shot-stopper shared the heartbreaking news on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday evening, disclosing that the death of his mother marked another devastating chapter in what he described as “the worst year of my life already.”

In his emotional post, Nwabali simply wrote, “Rip mom,” adding to the depth of his sorrow.

Earlier in the day, he had expressed his frustration with the world, stating, “A very very crazy world indeed,” though he did not provide any further details about the circumstances surrounding his mother’s passing.

This tragic news follows a profound loss Nwabali endured just over a month ago, when he lost his father, Godspower Onyekam Abali.

His father’s death occurred in mid-November, just hours before the Super Eagles were set to play Rwanda in a crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations , AFCON, qualification match.

In light of his father’s passing, Nwabali was granted permission to miss the match, though he still attended the game to support his teammates from the sidelines.

Dayo Enebi Achor, the Super Eagles’ Team Administrator, confirmed this arrangement to thenff.com, stating, “He has been excused from the game. However, the player will come to watch the match and cheer his teammates on.”

Stanley Nwabali’s father, Godspower Onyekam Abali, who was also known as Chief Onyeogazrim 1 of Okwuzi, was 67 years old at the time of his death.

The loss of both parents in such a short period has undoubtedly left a heavy emotional burden on the young goalkeeper, who is also dealing with the pressures of his professional career.

Nwabali’s career has been marked by significant achievements, with one of his most notable performances coming early last year during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations , AFCON.

The goalkeeper earned widespread recognition for his stellar displays between the sticks as the Super Eagles reached the final of the competition.

Despite Nigeria’s valiant efforts, they ultimately fell short to hosts Côte d’Ivoire in the final, but Nwabali’s performances were a bright spot for the team, further solidifying his reputation as a top-class goalkeeper.
