Qassim Abdulsallam, a Nigerian referee, will feature as centre referee at the 2025 African Nations Championship.

Confederation of African Football ,CAF, announced the 65-man roster of officials on its website, and Abdulsallam is the only Nigerian among the referees chosen for the tournament.

CHAN, a biennial competition exclusively for African players from their respective countries’ local leagues, will be held from February 1 to February 28, 2025, in three co-hosting nations: Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya.

This edition marks the first time the tournament will be co-hosted by three countries.

The Nigerian official earned his place following strong performances, including his role in the second-leg CHAN qualifier between Niger and Cote d’Ivoire at Bamako Stade, 26 Mars, in late 2025.

A member of the Zamfara State Referees’ Council, Abdulsallam also participated in CHAN course preparations in Cairo in 2025 and was among the officials for the WAFU U-20 qualifiers in Togo.

In related news, Nigeria’s Super Eagles B team has qualified for the 2025 CHAN, marking their return to the tournament after a six-year absence.

They secured their spot with a 3-1 victory over Ghana in the second leg of the final qualifying match at Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, following a goalless draw in the first leg in Ghana.
