Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, the umbrella Igbo socio-cultural group, has renewed the call for the freedom of Nnamdi Kanu.
The call came as President Bola Tinubu visited Enugu State Saturday to commission projects initiated by Governor Peter Mbah’s administration during his one-day visit.
In a statement by Ohanaeze’s National Publicity Secretary, Alex Ogbonnia, the group expressed satisfaction with what it perceived as a positive shift in the federal government’s attitude toward the Igbo.

Ohanaeze emphasized the importance of equity and social justice for national peace, unity, and sustainable economic growth.
The statement read in part “Ohanaeze Ndigbo is pleased with the gradual change in the federal government’s approach toward the Igbo. We have always maintained that true national peace and prosperity can only be achieved through equity and social justice.”
It further stressed, “No society or group can thrive in the face of marginalization, deprivation, and external forces fueling insecurity and unrest.”
The group concluded with a hopeful note, stating that if President Tinubu were to order the release of Nnamdi Kanu during this visit, it would be a historic and significant gesture that would endear him to the hearts of Ndigbo and other Nigerians committed to peace and unity.
