Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno is worried about the rising cases of vandalism of public infrastructure, particularly transformers, in the state.
Eno made this statement when he welcomed the new Commissioner of Police, CP, for Akwa Ibom, Mr. Baba Azare, during his courtesy visit to the governor’s office in Uyo on Tuesday.
Similar issue has sparked concern in the nation’s capital, Abuja, where there have been reports of vandalism targeting manhole covers on highways.
At least 50 individuals have been arrested by the police in connection with these incidents and are facing prosecution.

The governor highlighted the significant cost to the government in replacing damaged infrastructure, noting that such vandalism also impedes rural development.
He reassured the new CP of his administration’s full support in the fight against crime, as well as in maintaining peace and security across the state.
Eno emphasized that the state government has consistently maintained a strong and cooperative relationship with the various security agencies in Akwa Ibom.
The governor expressed his approval of Azare’s appointment as CP, noting that he had previously served in the state as Deputy Commissioner, Operations.
He further stated that the government is committed to ensuring that each village is equipped with at least one security personnel who will act as a liaison for the Nigeria Police.
“For community policing, you are aware of the Ibom Community Watch. We are enhancing this initiative to strengthen community policing, and we trust that they will continue to provide valuable information to you.”
“Currently, we are working to ensure that every village has at least one security officer, who will particularly help in monitoring government facilities within those communities.”
“We look forward to maintaining a continuous and mutually beneficial relationship with the leadership of the Nigeria Police, as we remain dedicated to serving the people of Akwa Ibom,” Eno added.
Earlier, Azare expressed his gratitude to the governor for his ongoing support of the security agencies in the state.
The CP assured that he would work closely with other security forces to ensure peace and safety in Akwa Ibom.
