Brito Sporting Club, a prestigious football club based in Portugal, has officially signed Nigerian-born footballer Yaqub Usman-Malah.
The contract, finalized on January 4, 2025, marks a significant step in the career of the young talent, who was born in Nigeria in 2006.
Before joining Brito Sporting Club, Yaqub honed his skills as a student and trainee at the Brooke College Football Academy in the United Kingdom.
During his time at the academy, he showcased remarkable potential, scoring 17 goals in 32 matches and accumulating 2,270 minutes of competitive play across 116 training days—without any injuries.
Yaqub’s performance at the academy did not go unnoticed. Tomasz Wasylik, the lead coach of the Under-17B team, praised him for his professionalism and exceptional work ethic.

Coach Wasylik described Yaqub as not only a “well-liked person” and role model to his teammates but also a versatile player who performed admirably in National School Cup competitions during the 2023/2024 season.
As stated by the coach, Yaqub is “technically good,” “tactically astute,” and capable of playing in multiple positions on the field.
The potential recognized by Coach Wasylik is expected to translate well at Brito Sporting Club, where Yaqub will look to fulfill his promise and achieve greatness.
In a statement issued to the media on January 8, 2025, Yaqub’s father, Mr. Usman Malah, expressed his pride: “While looking forward to the display of his unarguable skills and boundless stamina, we wish Yaqub a successful career and a place in the halls of football greatness across the globe.”
