Liverpool are reportedly eyeing Victor Osimhen as a potential replacement for Darwin Nunez.

The Reds are preparing to enter the race for the Nigerian striker this summer

Anfield Watch indicates that Liverpool’s incoming sporting directors, Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards, have identified Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, as the ideal candidate to fill Nunez’s boots.

Nunez has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, which may prompt Liverpool to make a move for Osimhen.

Edwards, who has been tracking Osimhen’s progress since his early days in Belgium and France, is particularly impressed by the 26-year-old’s performances this season in Turkey, where he has scored 13 goals and registered five assists in just 16 appearances.

Osimhen’s future at Napoli has been clouded by controversy following a public dispute with club president Aurelio De Laurentiis, who was angered by Osimhen’s decision to reject a potential January move to Manchester United.

De Laurentiis was quoted by La Repubblica saying, “Let him stay where he is. Tell Galatasaray to take Osimhen.”

The striker’s release clause will drop from €120 million to €75 million this summer, which could ignite a bidding war among Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and Manchester United.

In an interview after scoring twice against Tottenham in the Europa League, Osimhen confirmed that he would remain with Galatasaray until the end of the season: “I will not leave in January, I am at Galatasaray until the end of the season. I am very happy here, and I like the club a lot.” He added that any future discussions about his move would depend on talks between Galatasaray and Napoli.

Although former Galatasaray manager Hamza Hamzaoğlu has suggested the Turkish club cannot afford to make the move permanent, Osimhen’s future remains uncertain.

With Paris Saint-Germain reportedly out of the race after their manager, Luis Enrique, ruled out signing a traditional number nine, Liverpool could see a clear path forward to pursue the striker—especially if they decide to sell Nunez, who joined from Benfica for €85 million.

Despite rising Premier League interest, Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg has stated that Galatasaray are “100 percent convinced” that they will retain Osimhen for the remainder of the season.
