Former Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Kabiru Turaki has been arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court in Abuja over allegations of false marriage, adultery, and criminal intimidation.
The case stems from a petition received by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department, Abuja, on August 9, 2024.
Investigators say Turaki deceitfully led Ms. Hadiza Musa Baffa to believe they were lawfully married while cohabiting with her at various locations between December 2014 and November 2021.
Prosecutors alleged that Turaki rented an apartment for Baffa at No. 12, Clement Akpamgbo Close, Guzape District and continuously had a relationship with her, resulting in the birth of a daughter.
However, he later abandoned both mother and child, denying paternity.
The charges also include threats against their lives, allegedly using his influence and position.
During the court proceedings on February 6, 2025, Turaki pleaded not guilty to all charges. His lawyer, A. I. Mohammed requested bail, assuring the court that his client would be available for trial.
Magistrate Abubakar Jega granted bail in the sum of N1 million, with two sureties residing within the court’s jurisdiction and providing proof of residence. The trial is set to commence on March 11.
